Our Impact

Since October 2015, we have been inspired by so many dedicated teachers and the impact they have made on their students.

While our numbers tell us how many teachers and students we have reached across the country, it is their stories that tell us so much more.

Ummi Profile 1.jpg

Cikgu Ummi

Cikgu Ummi teaches a class of 7 to 9 year olds who come from low income backgrounds in Bagan Terap, Selangor. When asked “what do you want to be when you grow up?”, she received limited answers from her students. Because of this, she decided to bring her students on a trip to Kidzania in Kuala Lumpur, where they can see and experience many professions at work all in one place!  After the trip, her students were able to describe many professions and when asked again what they want to be when they grow up, she received a wider variety of answers.

CIKGU Nik

Cikgu Nik is a Remedial class teacher in Semporna, Sabah and on his first day of teaching, he was assigned an empty class. There were no furniture, no equipment for teaching and no students! So what did he do? He set out on a mission to give the classroom a complete makeover. He bought paint and brushes to redecorate the walls, gathered two friends to help him and camped out in the school for 8 days and 7 nights. All of his hard work paid off when his students returned to school and saw their brand new classroom. For a teacher, nothing beats the satisfaction of seeing happy, ready-to-learn students!

CIKGU Huda

Cikgu Huda, a teacher in Miri, Sarawak, was facing one major challenge; how to get her students to have a greater understanding of the text they read in their History books? She then came up with the idea to transform a classroom into a space for “builders” of civilisations. Her students were encouraged to create 3D models of the historical places they learn about. They spent time discussing, analysing, designing  and then presenting their completed models. Working as a team gave them the chance to showcase their talents in arts, decision-making, leading and all the right things to boost their confidence in learning this subject.
